Teniente de la Policía de Kissimmee recibe beca de NUC University

Kissimmee, FL – Como antelación a las celebraciones del Mes de la Herencia Hispana, el Teniente Omar Berrio del Departamento de Policía de Kissimmee recibió una sorpresa que le cambió la vida: el NUC University Reach Higher Scholarship. La beca, la cual cubre el costo de una maestría en NUC University Online Division, le permite al oficial continuar su crecimiento profesional y aspirar a convertirse en capitán de policía.

La Jefa de Policía de Kissimmee, Betty Holland, y oficiales de la unifirmada celebraron la noticia presentada por el Dr. James Michael Burkett, Presidente de NUC University Florida Technical College.

El Teniente Berrio recibió en el 2018 el Sergeant Sam Howard and Officer Matthew Baxter Memorial Scholarship, una beca conmemorativa que le permitió obtener un Bachillerato en Justicia Criminal en NUC University Florida Technical College.

Este grado universitario fue clave para su ascenso a Teniente del Departamento de la Policía de Kissimmee en 2020.

La beca, presentada como parte del programa de becas de NUC University, enfatiza el compromiso de la institución educativa en el empoderamiento de líderes hispanos a través de la excelencia profesional.

Alejandra Escobar, una destacada empresaria local y quien fue recientemente nombrada vicepresidenta de la Cámara de Comercio Hispana de Metro Orlando, también recibió una beca a través del mismo programa.

Kissimmee Lieutenant surprised with scholarship, moves closer to his dream of becoming a captain

Kissimmee, FL – Just ahead of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, Kissimmee Police Department’s Lieutenant Omar Berrio received a life-changing surprise: the NUC University Reach Higher Scholarship. This prestigious full-ride scholarship will allow Lt. Berrio to pursue a master’s degree through NUC University’s Online Division, bringing him one step closer to fulfilling his lifelong ambition of becoming a Police Captain. 

Kissimmee Police Chief Betty Holland, and fellow officers gathered to celebrate this life-changing announcement, which was made by Dr. James Michael Burkett, President of NUC University Florida Technical College. 

Lt. Berrio’s journey with NUC University began in 2018 when he was awarded the Sergeant Sam Howard and Officer Matthew Baxter Memorial Scholarship, allowing him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Florida Technical College. 

His continued dedication earned him a promotion to Lieutenant in 2020. 

This scholarship, presented as part of NUC University’s Reach Higher Scholarship program, underscores the institution’s commitment to empowering Hispanic leaders and fostering their pursuit of excellence. Alejandra Escobar, a prominent local entrepreneur and newly appointed Vice President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando, was also awarded a full-ride scholarship through the same program.
