El 5 de septiembre comenzó la campaña regular de la temporada 2024 de la NFL y termina el 5 de enero del 2025 como es costumbre desde el añ 2010. Todos los juegos de la Semana 18 serán entre equipos de la misma división. Cada equipo jugará 17 partidos con una semana de descanso.
Para esta temporada, la NFL cambió el sistema de patada inicial imitando a la XFL, con el fin de promover los regresos de patada inicial, los cuales cayeron a solo el 25 por ciento en la campaña pasada.
La medida será revaluada a final de temporada. Además de su intento por disminuir las lesiones, la nueva regla intenta recrear una formación utilizada en la línea de golpeo reduciendo el espacio y la velocidad de los jugadores. También se prohibió el tacleo llamado ‘hip-drop’ donde el tacleador abraza a corredor de sus caderas y deja caer su peso en las piernas de este.

• Se ajusta el proceso de patada de salida (a prueba por un año).
• Se extiende un reto más a los oficiales si los dos primeros resultan exitosos.
• Podrá marcarse castigo a la ofensiva tras intercambio de balón.
• Se podrá revisar si un quarterback lanzó un pase antes de caer o salir del campo.
• Revisión de jugadas en las que claramente expiró el reloj de juego.
Como otra novedad, en esta nueva temporada siete equipos estrenarán entrenador en jefe, además que los Raiders promovieron a su head coach interino Antonio Pierce quien reemplazó a Josh McDaniels en noviembre. Será la primera vez en 50 años que Bill Belichick no sea entrenador en jefe o asistente. Su lugar con los New England Patriots será ocupado por Jerod Mayo quien se estrena como entrenador en jefe.
Mike Macdonald reemplazó al también veterano Pete Carroll quien dejó el puesto de los Seattle Seahawks después de 14 años para convertirse en consejero. Jim Harbaugh regresa a la NFL luego de dirigir por cerca de 10 años en el fútbol americano colegial.
Como en cada temporada habrán juegos internacionales y en esta oportunidad la NFL llega a Brasil. Se jugarán cinco juegos internacionales en la temporada del 2024. Packers e Eagles jugarán el primer partido oficial de la NFL en Sudamérica el día 6 de septiembre. Tres juegos se celebrarán en Londres como ha sido costumbre y uno más en Alemania. Dentro de los juegos interacionales estarán; 6 septiembre: Packers vs Eagles, Corinthians Arena, 6 octubre: Jets vs Vikings, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 13 octubre: Jaguars vs Bears, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 20 octubre: Patriots vs Jaguars, Wembley Stadium, y el 10 noviembre: Giants vs Panthers, Allianz Arena.
Después del partido internacional de temporada regular de este año en São Paulo, Brasil, la NFL habrá jugado un partido en cinco de los siete continentes del mundo.
Para el 2025, la NFL tiene contemplado un juego a celebrarse en el estadio del Real Madrid, el Santiago Bernabéu. La NFL anunció una expansión de su Programa de Mercados Globales, con cuatro nuevos clubes y cinco nuevos mercados participando en 2024. Lanzado por primera vez en 2022, el Programa de Mercados Globales otorga a los clubes de la NFL derechos de marketing internacional para generar conciencia de marca y fanaticada más allá de Estados Unidos.
En esta temporada habrá 39 jugadores Latinos entre los más destacados podemos mencionar a: Fred Warner; de ascendencia mexicana y quien está ranqueado como el apoyador No. 1 en la NFL este año fue votado como el jugador No. 11 de la Liga en la encuesta anual NFL Top 100. Isiah Pacheco; este jugador de sangre boricua se ha convertido en el corredor principal del equipo en sus primeras dos temporadas como profesional, a la vez ayudándoles a construir dos temporadas ganadoras de Super Bowl. Christian González; de los New England Patriots: Si se mantiene saludable, este jugador de ascendencia colombiana podría deslumbrar en 2024 y ser uno de los mejores esquineros de la Liga. Chris Olave; En 2024, el jugador de ascendencia cubana al fin tiene la consistencia de jugar con el mismo mariscal de campo en temporadas consecutivas. César Ruiz; el jugador de ascendencia dominicana y puertorriqueña de 6 pies 4 pulgadas y 316 libras, permitió apenas cinco capturas en 1,050 jugadas el año pasado, lo cual estuvo empatado por la novena mejor actuación de la NFL en esa categoría.
2024 NFL season
The 2024 NFL regular season kicked off on September 5 and ends on January 5, 2025, as has been the custom since 2010. All Week 18 games will be between teams from the same division. Each team will play 17 games with a week off.
