El talentoso jugador, Alex Morales, causó sensación el verano pasado al unirse a la liga de baloncesto de Puerto Rico y firmó en noviembre su primer contrato con los Osceola Magic. Alex quien es el único jugador del equipo con herencia hispana nos brindó una entrevista en la que pudimos indagar un poco sobre su paso por la liga puertorriqueña y su adaptación y expectativas en esta nueva faceta de su carrera deportiva ahora aquí en Kissimmee junto a los Osceola Magic.
Alex, entiendo que es tu primera temporada en el Osceola Magic y vienes de jugar en la Liga Nacional de Puerto Rico específicamente en el equipo Los Osos de Manatí ¿cierto?
- Así es.
¿Cómo fue tu proceso de adaptación en un nuevo equipo y en una liga diferente?
- Fue súper fácil; la bienvenida que me dio el equipo Manatí; los jugadores y entrenadores fueron muy agradables al recibirme, se preocupaban por mí y me alentaban a ser yo mismo siempre.
¿Puedes contarnos sobre tu tiempo jugando en Puerto Rico el verano pasado? ¿Cómo fue tu experiencia ahí?
- Fue mi primera vez en Puerto Rico y es una isla muy hermosa con una atmosfera y un aire muy agradable. Fue muy divertido competir diariamente cada noche, me sentí grandioso allá. Con respecto al Basquetbol son muy competitivos. Me lastimé en la temporada regular y el quipo siempre cuido de mí y les agradezco eso.
¿Eres el único con herencia puertorriqueña en el equipo cierto? ¿Cómo te hace sentir ser un representante de Puerto Rico en el Osceola Magic y qué le puedes decir a los fanáticos puertorriqueños? ¡Que son muchísimos!
- Les agradezco el recibimiento que siempre me dan, siempre con una buena vibra. Cuando me encuentro con los fanáticos me apoyan mucho al igual que se apoyan uno a los otros, es un orgullo y honor ser representantes en distintos aspectos de Puerto Rico.
¿Cómo te ves a ti mismo en este deporte en 5 años por ejemplo? ¿Te ves jugando en la NBA, es tu sueño llegar ahí quizá?
- Ahora mi enfoque diario es ser fiel a mí mismo. Si logro llegar a la NBA seria grandioso, pero por ahora sigo el plan de Dios y me esfuerzo cada día.
Finalmente, Alex ¿Cómo ves a tu equipo este año?
- Tenemos un grandioso equipo con mucho talento. En la Liga G muchos van y vienen, por lesiones más que nada y nosotros hemos lidiado muy bien con eso. Es un equipo muy competitivo y talentoso. Lo damos todo cada noche en los juegos.
Entre otras cosas Alex nos contó que se está esforzando por aprender español, que su padre nació en Puerto Rico y él creció en New Jersey; su herencia hispana y puertorriqueña lo hace sentir muy orgulloso. Esperamos que siga creciendo en su carrera y logre grandes éxitos, más de los que ha cosechado.
Alex Morales: “Now my daily focus is being myself”
The talented player, Alex Morales, caused a sensation last summer by joining the Puerto Rican basketball league and signed his first contract with the Osceola Magic in November. Alex, who is the only player on the team with Hispanic heritage, gave us an interview in which we were able to find out a little about his time in the Puerto Rican league and his adaptation and expectations in this new facet of his sports career now here in Kissimmee along with the Osceola Magic.
Alex, I understand that it is your first season in the Osceola Magic and you come from playing in the National League of Puerto Rico specifically in the Los Osos de Manatí team, right?
– Correct.
What was your adaptation process like in a new team and in a different league?
– It was super easy; the welcome that the Manatí team gave me; the players and coaches were very nice to welcome me, they cared about me and encouraged me to always be myself.
Can you tell us about your time playing in Puerto Rico last summer? How was your experience there?
– It was my first time in Puerto Rico and it is a very beautiful island with a very pleasant atmosphere and air. It was a lot of fun competing daily every night, I felt great there. In regards to basketball they are very competitive. I got hurt in the regular season and the team always took care of me and I thank them for that.
You’re the only one with Puerto Rican heritage on the team right? How does it make you feel to be a representative of Puerto Rico in the Osceola Magic and what can you say to the Puerto Rican fans? Which are many!
– I thank you for the welcome you always give me, always with a good vibe. When I meet the fans, they support me a lot just as they support each other, it is a pride and honor to be representatives in different aspects of Puerto Rico.
How do you see yourself in this sport in 5 years for example? Do you see yourself playing in the NBA, is it your dream to get there maybe?
– Now my daily focus is being myself. If I make it to the NBA it would be great, but for now I follow God’s plan and I try hard every day.
Finally, Alex, how do you see your team this year?
– We have a great team with a lot of talent. In the G League many come and go, due to injuries more than anything and we have dealt with that very well. It is a very competitive and talented team. We give it our all every night in the games.
Among other things, Alex told us that he is trying hard to learn Spanish, that his father was born in Puerto Rico and he grew up in New Jersey; His Hispanic and Puerto Rican heritage makes him very proud. We hope that he continues to grow in his career and achieve great successes, even more than what he has already achieved.
